How to pick the right service
Start from what is wrong with the kitchen. If the layout works and the cabinet boxes are sound, refacing or refinishing plus new countertops fixes most of it for a fraction of the cost. If the layout is the problem, or the boxes are failing, it is a full renovation.
The single biggest cost decision in any kitchen is cabinetry, so that is the fork in the road. Everything downstream — countertops, tile, flooring, lighting — is comparable either way.
| If this is your situation | The service you want | Typical cost (CAD) |
|---|---|---|
| Layout fine, boxes solid, doors dated | Cabinet refacing | $7,000 – $16,000 |
| Layout fine, solid wood doors, just the wrong colour | Painting and refinishing | $4,500 – $9,000 |
| Cabinets fine, counters chipped or dated | Countertop installation | $3,800 – $9,500 |
| Awkward layout, dead corners, not enough storage | Custom cabinets | $14,000 – $50,000 |
| Kitchen closed off from living space | Open-concept conversion | $40,000 – $95,000 |
| Everything, all at once | Full kitchen renovation | $25,000 – $75,000 |
| Flooded, and the kitchen is wrecked | Water damage restoration | Insurance-dependent |
